One killed in Swift County accident last night

DEGRAFF –– A three-car crash near DeGraff last night killed the driver of one of the vehicles.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The accident was reported at 8:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 12, three miles east of DeGraff.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the victim was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am east on Highway 12 and was attempting to turn left onto 30th Street Southeast when it was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Thomas Kolbe, 37, of Sleepy Eye.

The impact caused the Pontiac to spin so it was facing south and it was then struck broadside on the driver’s side by a semi truck, driven by Jack Witthuhn, 65, of Wadena, that was traveling west on Highway 12.

Kolbe and a passenger, his eight-year old son Jaxon, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.

Witthuhn was not injured.
