Broadband project teeters on brink; Kandiyohi County officials still hopeful

Events scheduled Thursday in observance of Earth Day

WILLMAR -- Join the local Sierra Club group for a potluck picnic to celebrate Earth Day at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Guri Endresen shelter on Robbins Island in Willmar.

There will be local music with an environmental theme and time for short hike around Robbins Island to see spring wildflowers and migrating birds.

Plans will be made for a May 22 canoe trail outing as well.

Redwood Falls

Renville and Redwood counties will have an Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the National Guard armory in Redwood Falls.

There will be free barbecues and pop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or while supplies last.

There will be free document shredding with bulk, professional shredding on-site. Booths with have information on recycling, water quality, indoor mold, fish assessments, trails and more.

View sample bales of recyclable materials and the "manufactured end product." Visit with Public Health, nature photographer Ron Bolduan, "Clancy" the Mercury Detecting Dog, Department of Natural Resources, and more! Bring in your old lead fishing tackle for a free sample of non-toxic sinkers and jigs.
