Family escapes early morning fire that destroyed Meeker County home

GROVE CITY –– A rural Grove City woman and her 11-year old granddaughter escaped an early morning house fire today in Union Grove Township in Meeker County.

The house and the property inside was a total loss, according to a press release from the Meeker County Sheriff’s Department.

The fire was reported at 6:51 a.m. in the 36000 block of 532nd Avenue.

The single-story house was fully engulfed in flames when a Meeker County Sheriff's deputy and Paynesville Fire Department arrived on the scene.

Alerted by a smoke alarm, Karen Hubert, 59, and her granddaughter were able to get out of the house safely and notified emergency personnel. Richard Hubert was not home at the time.

The fire is believed to have started in the laundry room

The rental home was owned by Shalom Farms and rented by the Huberts.

The Paynesville Fire Department was assisted by the Eden Valley Fire.
