State Patrol says alcohol a contributing factor in Hwy. 12 fatality

KANDIYOHI — A Willmar man died as the result of a rollover accident on U.S. Highway 12 east of Kandiyohi at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, and alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

Quehubin V. Ramirez, 40, was pronounced deceased at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar shortly after the accident, according to the accident report.

Patrol Lt. Brad Ouart said late Sunday that alcohol was a contributing factor and further tests are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.

"This crash is another tragic reminder of how alcohol can adversely impact traffic safety," Ouart said.

Ramirez was traveling west on the highway in a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero. His vehicle went off the roadway into the right side ditch and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop on its side. He was partially ejected, according to the report.

Ouart said there was a driving complaint about the vehicle before the rollover.

Ramirez was the lone occupant.

The State Patrol and Kandiyohi County’s Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Tom Cherveny contributed to this report.
