Highway 55 crash claims 2 residents of Spicer

EDEN VALLEY -- A man and woman from Spicer were killed on a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when they were struck from behind on Minnesota Highway 55 in Eden Valley at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Killed were James R. Nelson, 50, of Spicer, the motorcycle's operator, and his passenger, Amy J. Langford, 43, also of Spicer.

They were rear-ended by a 2005 Chevrolet Venture minivan driven by Sarah Klein, 30, of Eden Valley, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Klein suffered minor injuries.

Klein was under the influence of alcohol and faces possible charges of fourth degree DWI and criminal vehicular homicide in Meeker County.

Klein was treated at the Paynesville Area Hospital and subsequently taken into custody by Meeker County law enforcement personnel.

The motorcycle and van were west bound on Highway 55 at the time of the accident.

The motorcycle was not slowing down or turning when it was struck from behind, according to the State Patrol.
