Event celebrates Ukraine heritage
MONTEVIDEO -- A "Ukrainian Christmas in the Village'' will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Historic Chippewa City in Montevideo.
The 32nd annual event is hosted by the Chippewa County Historical Society and celebrates Ukrainian culture. A traditional meal known as "knoephla" will be served. Rice pudding, lefse, krumkake and rosettes will also be available.
The buildings in the village are decorated for the season, and visitors can enjoy a "Christmas with Babushka'' at the Ness House. Santa will also visit children from 1 to 4 p.m. and there will be horse-drawn rides from noon to 3 p.m.
Children's crafts are offered from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., with youth offered the chance to make a Ukrainian egg, an angel necklace, a Ukrainian egg mobile, or a beaded Christmas wreath.
The old-fashioned radio show will also return from the heated Village Church at 11 a.m. An encore is scheduled at 1 p.m.
Piano students will perform a recital at 2 p.m.
Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 12-17. Admission is free for those 11 and uder.
