Infant dies near Boyd, Minn., after mother suffers medical problem
BOYD -- A 15-day-old infant died Thursday after her mother apparently experienced a medical problem and fell on top of her.
The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff's Office received an emergency call at 5 p.m. Thursday requesting medical help for an unresponsive infant and mother at a home three miles southwest of Boyd.
The infant, Skylar Shipley, was found on the floor under her 28-year-old mother Joyce Whitmore of rural Boyd, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.
Both were taken to Dawson Hospital where Skylar was pronounced dead. Whitmore was airlifted to another hospital.
According to the release, preliminary investigation indicated that Whitmore suffered a medical condition that caused her to collapse and land on top of her baby, who appeared to have suffocated.
The Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the situation. No foul play is suspected.
Assisting at the scene were the Dawson Ambulance, Boyd First Responders and the Boyd/Clarkfield Police Department.
