Olivia, Minn., man died prior to fire at apartment complex
OLIVIA — Billy Eugene Camper, 64, died of natural causes, and not as a result of the fire that destroyed his apartment Feb. 7 in the Westcourt Apartments in Olivia.
A preliminary autopsy report by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County lists natural causes as the probable cause of death.
It is not known yet what type of natural affliction he suffered — whether a heart attack or some other condition — but Camper died prior to the fire in the apartment. A full autopsy report is pending the final results of toxicology tests, said Olivia Police Chief Derek Lee.
Investigation of the fire scene has determined that the fire was accidental and that foul play is not suspected, according to the chief.
The investigation has looked at the possibility that the fire was electrical in origin or the result of smoking materials. Camper was a known smoker.
