Eight of the 13 counties comprising the Eighth Judicial District currently participate in the specialized drug court, and five do not. The participating counties are Wilkin, Grant, Traverse, Stevens, Swift, Kandiyohi, Meeker, and Chippewa. The non-participating counties are Big Stone, Lac qui Parle, Pope, Renville, and Yellow Medicine.

The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association recognized Renville County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Nelson as the state's Deputy Sheriff of the Year. He won recognition for his patrol work, building bonds between the department and the greater Renville County community, and his computer knowledge and determination to solve crimes.
