No travel advised near Belgrade, Paynesville and Sauk Centre

WILLMAR –  The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises no unnecessary travel this evening near Sauk Centre, Belgrade and Paynesville because of blowing snow, drifting and reduced visibility.

MnDOT issued the warning around 5 p.m. today as strong wind gusts continued to blow new snow across the region.

According to MnDOT, motorists should avoid U.S. Highway 71 between Little Sauk and Belgrade, and state Highway 4 between Interstate 94 and Highway 55.

Both roads have areas with snow drifts of 1-3 feet high that are encroaching lanes.

MnDOT snow plow operators are doing their part to make highways safe, said Melcher.

For updated information on road conditions, visit or call 511.
