Land workshop set Thursday in Glenwood, Minn

GLENWOOD — A workshop on the pros and cons of long-term conservation leases and land contracts for beginning and retiring farmers will be at 5:30 p.m. April 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. There is no charge for this workshop, but please reserve a spot by contacting Nick Olson at 320-269-0157 or nicko@

The theme of this joint Land Stewardship Project/Farmers’ Legal Action Group workshop is “What is the legacy you want to leave on the land? Values-based planning is possible.” The workshop is in response to the complexities that exist for beginning farmers attempting to gain access to land. One avenue for access is through long-term conservation leases, which can benefit the retiring and beginning farmers, as well as the land itself.

A Farmers’ Legal Action Group attorney will be available to share information about long-term leases and land contracts. After the formal presentation, participants will have an opportunity to sign up for 10- to 15-minute time slots to meet individually with the FLAG attorney. There will also be an opportunity for beginning and retiring farmers to have informal conversations before and after the workshop.
