Assault charges filed today for weekend stabbing in Montevideo
MONTEVIDEO — The Chippewa County attorney’s office filed charges of assault in the first degree and assault in the second degree against David Medellin Jr., 18, of Montevideo, in district court in Montevideo this morning.
Medellin is accused of stabbing a 21-year-old man outside a Montevideo residence around 8:28 p.m. Saturday.
The complaint charges that the victim had gotten into an argument with people at a party on the 200 block of South Seventh Street, and had left when asked to do so. He returned a short while later asking for a coat and CD’s he had left behind. He was told they could not be found. The victim shared some words with the people in the house and began walking away. Medellin approached him outside the residence, according to the complaint.
The defendant allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the left upper chest. The victim punched Medellin and left, but subsequently underwent emergency surgery at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital for a punctured lung.
