Two die in weekend boating accident on Lac qui Parle Lake

MADISON -- Two people died Saturday after a boat capsized on Lac qui Parle Lake.

An adult female and a juvenile female were pronounced dead at area hospitals on Saturday. An adult male was treated after the incident.

The Lac qui Parle Sheriff's Office said Sunday that the names of those involved would not be released until today.

The Sheriff's Office received a report of an overturned boat on the lake at about 3 p.m. Saturday, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

Three people were pulled from the lake near Boyd's Landing.

According to the release, the adult male and the juvenile female were transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, where the juvenile female was pronounced dead. The adult female was taken to Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, where she was pronounced dead. No information was released about the condition of the adult male.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office. Assisting at the scene were the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, Montevideo Fire Department, Montevideo Ambulance Service, Milan Fire Department, Milan First Responders, Swift County Sheriff's Office, Appleton Police Department, Dawson Fire Department, Dawson Ambulance Service, Dawson Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Numerous bystanders and fishermen also assisted.
