Paul Twedt, left, and Michael Anderson are paddling over 1,200 miles as Adventure Stewards to promote a "leave a positive trace" ethic in the outdoors. They have paddled the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers to the confluence with the Mississippi River, and now are completing the Minnesota River, before taking on the Mississippi River in Minnesota. They are picking up garbage along the way, about 100 pounds per day on average.

The Minnesota Conservation Corps used blow torches last year as part of efforts to eradicate Palmer amaranth on conservation lands in Yellow Medicine and Lyon counties. Contaminated seed was to blame for the noxious weed's presence.
