Seifert picks lawmaker as running mate for Minn. governor

ST. PAUL – Republican Minnesota governor candidate Marty Seifert announced Thursday that his running mate will be a suburban state representative.

Rep. Pam Myhra, R-Burnsville, and Seifert will compete against several other Republican candidates. Seifert narrowly won an early February straw poll among precinct caucus-goers.

“Pam is a winner, defeating an entrenched multi-term incumbent Democrat in a swing district," Seifert said.

Seifert, the only major governor candidate from rural Minnesota, said he is "impressed by her commitment to family, faith and community."

Seifert is a former state lawmaker from Marshall and is the second GOP candidate to name a lieutenant governor candidate. Dave Thompson of Lakeville earlier this month picked fellow state Sen. Michelle Benson of Ham Lake.
