Texting scam surfaces in Fargo area

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A mass phone texting scam has hit the Fargo area.

Authorities say the scam involves messages from bogus bank officials seeking personal identification numbers.

Parrell Grossman, director of the attorney general's consumer protection division, says the scam is targeting both Sprint and Verizon customers. He says his office has been flooded with calls from people who have gotten the texts.

Dan Hallock of Fargo says he got two of the bogus texts, and his cell phone provider tracked one of them to Africa.
