Corps to draw down Red River reservoirs

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- The Army Corps of Engineers says it plans to draw down reservoirs in the Red River basin to maximum levels to better handle spring runoff.

The corps says Lake Ashtabula, Lake Traverse, Orwell Reservoir and Homme Reservoir will be drawn down because of excessive snow in the basin.

The corps and officials in the Red River Valley are gearing up for another spring flood fight.

Last spring, Fargo residents fought off two river crests -- the first at a record 40.82 feet and the second at 34 feet.
