Willmar teen named state Junior Miss
APPLE VALLEY -- Emily Ellingson, of Willmar, was named Minnesota's Junior Miss Saturday during the statewide competition in Apple Valley.
The Willmar High School senior will travel to Mobile, Ala., in June where America's Junior Miss will be crowned.
Ellingson, who was among the eight girls competing for the title, was one of the top two finalists in the interview, fitness, talent and scholastics categories. She also received the most votes by her peers for the spirit scholarship.
"It is exciting," said Ellingson in an interview Sunday. Competing in the week-long event was "so rewarding I can hardly explain it," she said.
Ellingson is active in Student Council, danceline, cross country, music, National Honor Society and speech. She intends to pursue a career in optometry.
She volunteers at her church with mission trips, adopt-a-highway and Feed My Starving Children, with Salvation Army gift wrapping and is a Play Day volunteer.
She is the daughter of Jim and Amy Ellingson of Willmar.
Her sister, Allie, was Minnesota's Junior Miss in 2006.
