Update: NTSB investigating train collision

TWO HARBORS, Minn. (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team of investigators to northeastern Minnesota where two trains collided head-on and injured five crew members.

Two Canadian National freight trains heading in opposite directions collided north of Two Harbors in Lake County Thursday afternoon.

The NTSB said today it will send a four-member team to investigate.

CN spokesman Patrick Waldron says one train pulling 118 empty cars was headed north, while the other train with three locomotives pulling 116 cars full of iron ore pellets was headed south on the same track.

Waldron says two of the five injured crew members remain hospitalized.

Waldron says CN crews are working to clear the three locomotives and 13 cars that derailed from both trains.
