Melin sworn in, takes Minnesota House seat

HIBBING, Minn. (AP) -- The newest member of the Minnesota House is officially taking her seat.

Democratic Rep.-elect Carly Melin was due Tuesday to be sworn in for a district representing many Iron Range towns. A judge from the area was to administer the oath at Hibbing City Hall.

Melin, a lawyer, was elected last week to replace former House Majority Leader Tony Sertich, who stepped down to take an executive branch post.

The House had been operating with 133 members. Her presence won't alter the balance of power in St. Paul. Republicans hold a 72-62 advantage.
