Breckenridge teen's video prompts Wahpeton police investigation (with video)

WAHPETON, N.D. - A Wahpeton police officer is facing an internal investigation after a teenager's video hit the Web.

Breckenridge, Minn., teen Robert Wanek, 17, posted the video of what he calls his illegal arrest on YouTube.

In the video, Wanek claims to be standing on a public street, filming for a documentary. He tells Officer Dustin Hill he is shooting a video on illegal raids.

It appears as though Hill immediately walks up to Wanek and arrests him.

"You're under arrest for interfering with a police investigation; put your hands behind your back," Hill says in the video.

Wanek claims in the video he was detained for an hour but his parents were not called nor was he read his Miranda rights before he was interviewed.

Wanek said he was told by officers that he made Hill angry and that was what he did wrong.

WDAY reports Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson said he opened an investigation to determine if Hill did anything wrong. Hill could be reprimanded or fired.

Hill was unavailable for comment, as he was in Minnesota for police training this week.

Court records do not show any cases against Hill regarding illegal searches.

Wanek also posted the video, among many others, on the website, a 9/11 conspiracy theory blog.

The video's YouTube post has already garnered nearly 150,000 hits.
