Deadline extended to enroll in Minnesota health insurance plan
ST. PAUL - The deadline for enrolling in Minnesota's health insurance exchange for coverage starting Jan. 1 has been extended..
Minnesotans now have until Dec. 28 to enroll through MNsure and have their plan take effect at the start of the new year. The announcement was made Saturday.
However, MnSure officials encourage people to not wait until the last minute. That could delay getting plan information or ID cards until after the first of the year.
Persons can get free help to enroll by signing up for an appointment with a MnSure navigator or broker partners.
The penalty for not having health insurance is increasing. For people without health coverage in 2016, the uninsured could get stuck with a fine of $695 per person or more when doing their federal income taxes in 2017.
