The fire Saturday that destroyed Hawk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Sacred Heart left the church’s altar nearly untouched. An immature bald eagle was rescued July 6 by family and visitors to the Park Rapids, Minn.-area lake home of Grand Forks resident Arne Brekke. The eagle had become entangled in a length of nylon rope, and people visiting the cabin were able to rescue the bird and free its leg after consulting staff from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for advice.
