Heat advisory today in Willmar and much of western, central Minn.

WILLMAR -- Summer is back. The first 90-degree day in more than a month is forecast today for much of the area, the National Weather Service says. That combined with high humidity will lead to hazardous heat indices.

A heat advisory has been issued from noon to 8 p.m. today in western and central Minnesota, including the Willmar, Litchfield, Montevideo and Olivia areas. The Weather Services says heat indices of 97 to 102 are expected in the advisory area this afternoon as temperatures range in the low to mid 90s and dew points around 70.

The hot and humid conditions will create a heightened risk of heat-related stress and illness, the National Weather Service says, especially for the young, the elderly and those without air conditioning. Anyone spending time outdoors should be alert to the signs of heat exhaustion.
