Local Roundup: Thunder honored for sportsmanship
The Willmar Thunder 13AA baseball team received the Youth 1st Team Award from the Youth 1st and the Minnesota Sports Federation.
Youth 1st Director Mark Arjes presented the award to the team Aug. 17 at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar.
The Thunder were honored for outstanding sportsmanship during the 2017 MSF State Baseball Tournament.
The award recognizes positive behavior by players, coaches, and the team's parents, fans and spectators. The team was presented a plaque, individual certificates and Minnesota Twins tickets for an upcoming game, at which the players and coaches will be recognized.
"We place an emphasis on how you play the game, which is ultimately more important than if you win or lose," Arjes said.
The Thunder are: In front from left, Logan Bass, Francisco Lara, Jason Malmgren, Eli Nelson, Isaac Strommer and Jackson Sportel.
