Jury convicts Litchfield man in sex assault case
LITCHFIELD — A Meeker County jury returned guilty verdicts Friday in Litchfield to two charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and a third charge of second-degree criminal conduct against LC Monroe Johnson.
District Judge Michael Thompson ordered that Johnson, 32, of Litchfield, immediately be held in jail pending sentencing Oct. 18. Thompson also ordered a presentence investigation and required the defendant to undergo a psychosexual evaluation.
Jury selection began Tuesday.
The criminal complaint charged that Johnson sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on Oct. 24, 2016, at a residence in Litchfield. The girl told authorities she had fallen asleep on a couch while watching television and woke up to find her pants down and Johnson sexually assaulting her.
The girl said she woke up, pushed Johnson off of her, and ran into the bathroom. She said he later apologized to her. He denied sexually assaulting the girl when interviewed by Litchfield police officers.
The girl texted her mother after the assault and went to a medical center for evaluation.
She knew the defendant and told authorities she never thought he would do anything like that to her.
The first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges carry a potential sentence of 15 years in prison.
