Prep Volleyball: It's Tigers vs. Tigers in 3AA final

GLENWOOD — Morris/Chokio-Alberta overcame a second-set loss and defeated Paynesville in four sets in a Section 3AA semifinals match on Thursday at Minnewaska High School.

Jenna Howden finished with 20 kills and three blocks, Jenna Larsen had 10 kills and three blocks and Karly Fehr had 42 set assists, three kills, a block and 12 digs.

Paynesville finished 18-8 and got 12 kills each from Abby Schaefer and Skylar Bayer, and Jacquelyn Hoeft had 11 kills. Molly Stang had 25 set assists and Jenna Lundquist had 19 assists.

The MCA Tigers improved to 21-5 and take on Marshall (25-7) in the section championship match at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall.

Marshall's Tigers are ranked No. 9 in Class AA according to QRF and are No. 2 in Volleyball Hub Class AA rankings. They haven't dropped a set in their three playoff wins this season.

Marshall is a six-time state champion, has finished runner-up five times and has been in the state tournament 26 times in the last 40 years.

But Morris/CA is seeking its third-straight state tournament trip and the Tigers were the 2016 consolation champions.

"Obviously, with their tradition and high state ranking, it's a strong program," said MCA head coach Kristi Fehr. "We just need to play our game and see what happens."
