Woman growing 117 pot plants pleads guilty
APPLETON — An Appleton woman who is charged with growing more than 100 marijuana plants while living in the caretaker's unit of an Appleton motel pleaded guilty to a felony charge this week in Swift County District Court.
Lynda Michelle Smith, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree possession of drugs.
As part of the plea agreement, two other felony charges of fifth-degree sale of marijuana and fifth-degree possession of marijuana were dismissed.
According to the complaint filed against her, the CEE-VI Drug Task Force conducted a search warrant last June at the caretaker's apartment at the Prairie Waters Inn where Smith and Christa Jo Johnson, 44, lived.
The search turned up 117 marijuana plants that, when dried, yielded about 42.5 grams of pot.
Drug paraphernalia, a couple small bags of marijuana and pay/owe sheets were also discovered, according to the complaint.
Sentencing for Smith is set for March 5.
Johnson faces the same charges as Smith. A settlement conference for Johnson is scheduled for Feb. 12.
