Kicking off rodeo festivities in Maynard Saturday evening, the crowd paid tribute to those who put their lives on the line to serve their community every day, including the Maynard Fire Department, the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Chippewa County-Montevideo Ambulance squad.

The night's festivities also included a tribute to the late Alvin "Mike" Berends, who passed away earlier this year. Berends was among the founders of the Triple B Rodeo company in Maynard in 1991.

Following all the usual rodeo events, bareback and saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, steer wrestsling, roping events and bull riding, the evening concluded with music by Hicktown Mafia.
