'Mamma Mia' opens tonight at Willmar High School

WILLMAR — The Willmar High School music department presents "Mamma Mia" at 7 p.m. today through Saturday, and at 1 p.m. Sunday, at the Brau Performing Arts Center at the high school.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available on the school website, at Willmar Community Education in Jefferson School and, if any left, at the door before each performance.

The jukebox musical was written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, former members of the band.

The musical includes such hits as "Super Trouper," "Lay All Your Love on Me," "Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Take a Chance on Me," "Thank You for the Music," "Money, Money, Money," "The Winner Takes It All," "Voulez-Vous," "SOS" and "Mamma Mia."

Kathryn Gubrud plays the daughter Sophie Sheridan and Sydney Lanning plays her mother, Donna Sheridan.

Other cast members include Joely Palmer, Julia Thaden, Sarah Carlson, Rachel Lanning, Emily Malmgren, Jeremy Pierskalla, Ethan Gustafson, James Bakker, Marquis Christenson, Christopher Wright, Devin Fuchs and Pedro Cruz.

Members of the chorus are Bailey Stahl, Carly Haines, Courtney Carlson, Douglas Thoms, Dylan Buddy, Emily Hunt, Erin Vruwink, Grace Lynum, Holly West, Ingrid Lindgren, Isaac Rende, Malaya Yague, Marah West, Marisa Peterson, Matthew Weiss, Meghan Weiss, Noah Vander Pol, Phillip Thoms, Quiana Christenson, Serena Mobley,Tasha Klatt and Tessa Engelkes.

Playing in the pit orchestra are Elise Vomacka, Clara Holm, Maeve Winter, Jacob Meyer, Myles Kinney, Kaylee Helgeson, Kari Stadem and Zach Erikson, under the direction of Todd Blaser.

Running the lights and sound are Elliot Christensen, Will Trochlil, Hali Ziehl, Zach Gould, Eleanor Schmitz and Ugbad Abdi, under the direction of Terry Brau.

Members of the set and backstage crew are Marina Moyers, Sufyan Harbi, Blake Gibson, Anna Rice, Lydia Meier, Sydney Heid, Hannah Olson and Shawn Melies-Uren, under the direction of Bryan Mara.

The musical directors are Neal Haugen, Julene Haugen and Travis Michelson with Marin Enstad as the student director.

Kari Michelson is the choreographer. Costumes are by Anna Zieske and art director is Alison Schaaf.
