Elda Van Buren

Elda Van Buren, age 94, of Willmar, died Monday morning, January 9, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be at St. Matthew's Cemetery near Danube. Visitation will be 1 1/2 hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg,

Elda Caroline Van Buren was born September 18, 1922, in Danube, Minnesota, to Robert and Caroline (Mueller) Bratsch. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Danube, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member there for 47 years. Elda attended school in Danube and graduated from Danube High School in 1940.

On September 21, 1941, she married Otto Miller in Danube and they lived and farmed in the area. They later moved to Madison, Minnesota and then to Blomkest, Minnesota. Otto and Elda had five children. Otto was killed in a road construction accident in 1966.

On December 5, 1969, she married Harry Van Buren. They made their home in Prinsburg, Minnesota and spent their winters in Arizona. Harry passed away in 1998.

Elda was an avid reader and kept a daily journal since the age of 18. She was a current member of First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg, where she belonged to Mission Club. Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joy in her life. Elda's faith in Jesus Christ was the source of her strength and gentle spirit of contentment she possessed. She was a testimony of God's grace in life and in death.

She is survived by one son, Arthur (and Sherry) Miller of Willmar, MN; two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Miller of Willmar, MN and Nancy Gohnert of Fairfax, MN; stepchildren, Roger (and Marlene) Van Buren of Rochester, MN, Eunice (and Curtis) Duininck of Trophy Club, TX, and Betty (and Duane) Meyer of Clara City, MN; thirteen grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren and their spouses; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three sons, Harold in 1954 when he was two weeks old, Larry in 1993, and Adrien in 2016; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Slagter in 2008 and Gary Slagter in 2007; two sisters; and two brothers-in-law.
