Dorothy M. Schwandt

Dorothy M. Schwandt, 98, of Willmar, died Saturday, September 30th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her graveside service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 4th at Clover Leaf Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Dorothy was born August 26, 1919, in San Rafael, California, the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Peterson) Gambetta. From when she was 8 yrs old through high school, Dorothy lived with her grandparents in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her claim to fame was that she skated with her sister, Anna, for the San Francisco Bay Bombers Roller Derby when she was 16.

She met Duane at a roller skating rink and continued to meet a box lunch wagon at the San Francisco Shipyards where Duane worked. They were united in marriage on December 30, 1940 in Elko, Nevada. In the early 1950's, they moved to Minnesota where they bought a resort from the Samuelson Family. They owned and operated Duane's Bay Resort until 1978 when they sold the resort and retired.

She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Gambetta and Julius "Pete" Gambetta.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Anna and husband, Duane.
