Gerald "Jerry" Thorpe

Gerald "Jerry" Thorpe, 78, of Kandiyohi died Tuesday, November 7th at his home. His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Monday, November 13th, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Sunday, November 12th, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Gerald Lewis Thorpe was born August 20, 1939, to Lewis E. and Nora O. (Tvete) Thorpe in Willmar. He started working on the family farm at a young age. Jerry attended Willmar High School where he graduated with the Class of 1957. Following graduation, he continued to live on the family farm and work with his family. On August 25, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanie Robinson at St. Ansgars Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Following their marriage, Jerry and Jeanie took over the Thorpe family farm in rural Kandiyohi. He continued to farm with his family for 50 years, retiring in 1994, then continued to work at diversified life styles for another 20 plus years. Jeanie died on February 24, 2014. Jerry later married Dorothy Robinson on September 27, 2014. Jerry was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, serving as an usher and sound board operator. He was also involved with the following committees: Mission Committee, Building and Maintenance, Christ Care, Church Council, Family Promise, Prayer Group, and Men's Bible Study. He also enjoyed being active with the Farmer's Union, DFL, Meals on Wheels, FFA, gardening, and collecting and working on tractors. Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy Robinson; children: Jeff (and Becky) Thorpe of Cold Spring, Don (and Ramona) Thorpe of Kandiyohi, Doug (and Shannon) Thorpe of Inver Grove Heights, Pam (and Roger) Mercer of Waihi, New Zealand, Nikayla Patsy Gibson of Minneapolis, and Michael (and Celena) Thorpe of Woodbridge, VA; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Doris Johnson and Ann (and Fred) Sole.

In addition to his first wife, Jeanie, he was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Bordson.
