Stella I. Bombeck, 82, of Willmar died Wednesday, January 10th, at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 15th, at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Stella Irene was born June 16, 1935, the youngest of 12 children, in Isabel, South Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Stapert) Monnens. The family lived in various communities before settling near Bellingham, Minnesota. Stella graduated from Bellingham High School with the Class of 1953.

On July 3, 1958, Stella was united in marriage to Maurice James Bombeck at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Madison. Following their marriage, they lived in Minneapolis from 1958 until 1973, when they moved to Willmar and resided near Eagle Lake. This union was blessed with three sons. Stella worked as a secretary in the Science Department at Willmar Community College, retiring in 1998. Maurice preceded her in death on December 16, 1997. She moved to Copperleaf Senior Living in 2013.

Stella was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. She was a member of Church of St. Mary, where she was active with CCW, and making baptism gowns and blankets.

Her family remembers her as a wonderful mother; loving, humble, gentle and kind-hearted. Stella enjoyed handiwork: needlepoint, cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting and sewing, making many gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers.

Surviving are her children: James (and Dawn) Bombeck of Hutchinson; Doug Bombeck of Kandiyohi; Dennis (and Mary) Bombeck of Alexandria; five grandchildren: Ryan Bombeck, Brandon Bombeck, Jody Richters, Mitchel Bombeck, Sage Doty; and three great-grandchildren:. Also surviving are her sister, Leona Karels of Melrose; sister-in-law, Patsy Monnens of Gillette and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Maurice, Stella was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.
