He graduated from Olivia High School in 1960 and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1964 with a degree in Business. Kent married Shirley Struck on July 20, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bellingham, MN. Kent's fifty-year career in banking began in 1964 at the First National Bank of Minneapolis. He moved back to Olivia in 1968 and was proud of becoming the third generation of his family to lead the Citizens State Bank until his retirement on February 7, 2014. Kent had many fond childhood memories of going to his family's lake cabin in Pelican Lake, WI, spending time at the Mehlhouse farm, and planting many of the original trees at the Olivia Golf Club with his Dad. In later years, Kent thoroughly enjoyed working alongside his father in law at the Struck family farm. It brought him great joy watching sporting events and other activities of his three children and his seven Grandchildren. He valued his time relaxing and spending quality time with family and friends at his home on Green Lake.
