Charles Brandt

Charles Brandt, age 83, of Olivia died at his home on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia with Rev. Yong Ok Son officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Byron Cemetery in Byron, MN at a later date. Visitation for Charles will be Monday at the church from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Charles Calvin Brandt was born September 14, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN, to Iris Brandt. He grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School in 1953. After high school he did surveying with his lifelong friend Larry Manderfeld. Chuck served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. His military medical training led him to employment at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital where he was a surgical technician. After this Chuck was employed by the Mayo Clinic from 1967 until his retirement in 1996. Chuck married Gloria Zimmer on August 16, 1957 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. They were blessed with one son, Greg. Gloria passed away in 1996. He married Marsha Davis on December 7, 1998 and they made their home in Olivia. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia and the American Legion in Byron. Chuck enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, golfing, traveling, and playing cards. He also greatly enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, fishing, deer and pheasant hunting, and time spent on Big Kandi Lake with family and friends.

Chuck is survived by his wife Marsha Brandt of Olivia; his son Greg (and Mary) Brandt of Byron; his grandchildren: Courtney (and Arik) Johnson of Byron and Pete (and Kara) Brandt of Farmington; his eight great-grandchildren; his stepdaughter Mindy Davis (and Adam Hamilton) of Rosemount; his grandchildren Harley Sing, Chandler Davis, Austin Hamilton and Olivia Hamilton; his half-sisters: Mary Rudquist of Minneapolis and Darlene Ostrowski of Hutchinson; and his half-brother Alan Maresch of Bird Island. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Iris and Herb Maresch; his first wife Gloria Brandt; and his brother-in-law Dwaine Rudquist.
