Verla Fuchs-Meier

Verla Fuchs-Meier, 89 of Paynesville, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. www.hafh.org

Verla Mae Meier was born on August 7, 1929 in Welcome, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Gruetzmacher) Galles. She attended country school and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Leslie Fuchs on May 4, 1949. They were blessed with nine children and shared in 34 years of marriage before his death. Verla was united in marriage to Galen Meier on July 2, 1988. They enjoyed traveling together and their winters in Florida until Galen's death in 2010. She moved to Washburne Court on March 18, 2014, where she remained until shortly before her death.

Verla worked various jobs throughout her lifetime but ended with 25 years as a lab technician at AMPI. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family and friends, fishing, grandchildren's sporting events, bowling, watching tv, especially games shows and soap operas.

Verla is survived by children, Sandy (Norm) Gaskins, Bruce (Diane) Fuchs, Byron (Deanna) Fuchs, Rick (Sandy) Fuchs, Kathi (Bill) Ridgeway, Debi (Jim) Butkofski, Greg Fuchs, Steve (Nel) Fuchs, and Lisa (Roger) Hemmesch; Galen's children, Dennis (Londa) Meier, Carol (Chris) Nasby, Monica Meier, Curt (Beth) Meier, Russ (Karen) Meier, and Connie (Dick) Anderson; 41 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; brother, Myron (Bonnie) Galles; sister-in-law, Carolyn Christensen and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and Galen's son, David.

Verla's family wishes to thank the staff of Washburne Court, Koronis Manor and Rice Memorial dialysis team for their loving care of mom.
