Ruth Anna (Emanuelson) Hanson was born in Minneapolis on August 17, 1930, the fourth and youngest child of Frans Emil Emanuelson and Anna (Christopherson) Emanuelson. She attended school in Minneapolis, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1948. She earned her R.N. Degree in 1951 from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed singing in both the high school and nursing school choirs, and also in the church choir at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was baptized.
Ruth married Eugene Albert Hanson on September 20, 1952, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. They lived on a series of farms north of Montevideo, Minnesota, until 1964, when they moved into town, where they would live for the next 34 years. Ruth and Gene raised five children during their years in Montevideo. Ruth worked at several jobs during that time, her favorite being Parent Coordinator for elementary students in the Montevideo Public Schools. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking Christmas cookies, and many family activities. In 1999, Ruth and Gene moved to Willmar, Minnesota, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Her faith was important to her, and she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Montevideo, and then at First Baptist Church (now, Refuge Church) of Willmar, serving as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, Deaconess, and involved with various boards and women's activities. She enjoyed Bible studies, quilting, and coffee with many friends.
Ruth is survived by her children: Sharon Banister of Willmar, Keith (and Liz) Hanson of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Susan Hanson (and Bill Levine) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Kevin (and Monica) Hanson of Madison, Wisconsin, and Shelly (and Brad) Anderson of Plymouth, Minnesota; grandchildren: Maria (and Jon) Shih, Tesia Hanson, Rebecca Best, Abigail Hanson, Eliza Hanson, Jessica Anderson, and Daniel Anderson; great-grandchildren: Reagan Shih and Charlotte Shih; and "honorary" children Grace Thornhill (with her son Alec Considine-Mueller and granddaughter Nora Considine-Mueller), Cynthia Boehlke, and Colleen Hirman. Ruth had a lot of love to share with all, and her survivors have many happy memories of baking cookies, decorating for every holiday, playing cards, chicken collectibles, tea parties, sewing and craft projects, and many more.
Ruth died on September 28, 2018, and was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents, and her sister and brothers (Esther Wood, George Emanuelson, and Robert Emanuelson).
