Editorial: Re-elect Koenen in Dist. 20B
House District 20B voters have a choice between Democratic incumbent Lyle Koenen of Clara City and Republican-endorsed Don Swoboda of Olivia. This is a choice between an experienced legislator and a candidate making his first run for elected office.
This district includes Renville and Chippewa counties and an eastern portion of Yellow Medicine County. The West Central Tribune believes Koenen has earned re-election to represent this district.
Koenen is a quiet and hard-working legislator. A former crop and livestock farmer, he brings his agriculture experience and expertise to the Legislature. He understands the importance and the responsibility of appropriate investment in education and transportation.
With six years in the Legislature, Koenen has developed experience and seniority, which can be beneficial to the district. Overall, he remains a strong supporter for the critical needs of rural Minnesota, including this district.
Swoboda is a farmer and small business owner. He is concerned about the condition of rural America. He believes that education, transportation, health care and veterans' issues should receive priority.
However, Swoboda has not made a sufficient case for his election. Koenen's experience and seniority in the likely majority party -- DFL -- makes him the best choice in House 20B.
The West Central Tribune endorses Koenen for re-election in House District 20B.
