Editorial: There is football in the air today

There is something in the air today. Can’t you feel it? It is the electricity of football season.

This afternoon and tonight are opening games for many Minnesota high school teams for the 2013 season .

You can read about 19 high school teams in our coverage area in our Pigskin Preview section in the West Central Tribune.

Each high school team faces its challenges for this season season: new players, new coaches, replacing key players and finding the right focus for this year. All teams are looking for the first win of the season.

The Pigskin Preview also takes a look at a few players from the past and finding out where they are now.

Football tonight is not restricted to just high schools.

The Minnesota Gophers open their 2013 season tonight against Nevada-Las Vegas at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis, looking to continue building on last season’s momentum.

The Minnesota Vikings close out their exhibition tonight against Tennessee Titans at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. While the starters will not play long or at all, the Vikings hope to win their first game of the exhibition season.

The start of football season is a special one this year.
