Editorial: Take time to help these good programs

As “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” made its annual play on network television this week, you knew that the holiday season was upon us. Part of America’s Christmas tradition is the simple act of giving, especially helping those in need.

Each year at this time we share a number of local programs in need of your support.

The Warm the Children campaign helps provide winter clothing to children in west central Minnesota. This program, administered by the West Central Tribune in partnership with Main Street Willmar, has a goal of $40,000 and is expected to help 500 children this year.

Now in its 20th year, the program is at about 30 percent of its goal. The program is in need of volunteer shoppers to assist in helping families shop. If you are interested, contact Warm the Children at 235-1150.

The Salvation Army of Willmar is also in the midst of its annual Red Kettle campaign. The contributions serve the needs within Kandiyohi County as well providing aid for the homeless.

The United Way of West Central Minnesota, based in Willmar, is also in the midst of its annual pledge campaign. The volunteer organization serves the citizens of Kandiyohi County and surrounding communities with multiple programs and support.

Contact these program as follows: Warm the Children at 320-235-1150, The Salvation Army at 320-235-2033 or the United Way of West Central Minnesota at 320-235-1050.

We encourage you to consider donating to all of these programs and/or appropriate programs in your local community. A little giving of your support goes a long ways in all three of these programs as well as brightening your day.
