On finding any reason to caucus tonight

DULUTH — Go because Minnesota’s political races already are heating up and there’s a candidate or two you kinda like.

Go because this time, doggonit, you’re going to be picked asa delegate to a county or district party convention and then maybe even to the state convention in the spring, where gubernatorial and other candidates actually will be endorsed.

Go because there’s a burning issue you’d like to see drafted intoa resolution that could become part of your party’s platform.

Go because it’s your civic duty and because you’ve always gone.

Go because you believe in democracy and our political process.

Or go because you don’t believe in our political process. Or in politicians. Or in polarizing party politics. Go to show ’em how it’s done.

Go because you’re as bitter as the rest of the nation over economic recovery that’s too slow, ever-rising taxes, government spending, or the political gridlock in D.C. Or all of the above.

Go to make a difference as an active participant.

Go so you can gripe later — with a clear conscience.

Whatever your reason, attending your precinct caucus Tuesday is apart of your responsibility as an American. Just like voting. And it’s easy to attend and toget involved. Declare your party affiliation (to anyone who’ll listen), find your caucus location (either by going to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website at or by calling the office at (877) 600-8683), and then just go. You can even expect to participate in straw votes that’ll help set the tone for Minnesota’s races.

Go because maybe someone will bring cookies.
