Editorial: Curling is fun with strategy on ice
Willmar is the center of the American curling world this week and the rocks are roaring.
The curling centers on that 42-pound stone and a lot of strategy at the USA Curling Mixed National Championship being held at the Willmar Civic Center.
To USA Curling and all the skips, curlers, family and fans attending the Mixed National Championship, welcome. Willmar and Kandiyohi County is where Minnesota’s lakes begin.
The championship enters the homestretch with semi-finals today, followed by the championship Saturday.
We commend the Willmar Curling Club, Civic Center manager Kevin Madsen and all the volunteers for their efforts in hosting this championship.
The ten four-person teams (two men, two women) have been competing all week in competition to determine the semi-final teams.
The championship’s competitors come from around the nation. They include some who have competed in the world championships and the Olympics for the United States.
Curling is a very competitive sport with lots of strategy. It is also fun to watch.
So get out to Willmar Civic Center today and Saturday, and you will see some of the best curlers in America.
You might even get hooked after discovering that curling rocks.
