Editorial: Business community is supporter of Willmar all around

Willmar and Kandiyohi County are fortunate to have an active, engaged and proactive business community that continually works for the betterment of the community as a whole in many ways.

Numerous business individuals are involved throughout the community in many ways - from service clubs, such as Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs; to major community fundraising efforts, like the current Kandiyohi County YMCA capital campaign or the iCardinal campaign funding high school technology; to various community leadership efforts, such as the Vision 2020 project or the Highway 23 Task Force efforts.

The local business community through the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce,is often supportive of various important Willmar projects, from development of the YMCA to coordinating the yearly Leadership Perspective program to supporting recent Willmar school levy efforts.

Many individual businesses support local efforts, such as Kennedy and Roosevelt Elementary improvement projects to the 2010 state baseball tournament to the United Way of West Central Minnesota, through volunteer and/or funding efforts.

Local businesses continue to invest in the community of Willmar, such as the MinnWest Technology Campus that redeveloped the Willmar Regional Treatment campus or the proposed Willmar Legacy Project targeting redevelopment of the Holiday Inn-Willmar Conference Center complex.

The various Willmar businesses — big and small — have provided a wide-range for local businesses, a strong and growing tax base and valuable employment for many individuals in Kandiyohi County and surrounding counties.

Most importantly, the businesses and the leaders do what they do without expectations of gratitude, but for the benefit of our community as a whole.

Willmar and Kandiyohi County are fortunate to have a strong, vibrant and growing business community.
