Letter: Why downtowns are failing

That certain people are aghast at how terrible it is that shoppers and elected officials somehow ignore older downtown venues would be laughable but for the latest notion of some that it is also somehow... discriminatory.

Am I then to believe that school and government building administrators, church elders, car and tractor dealers, passenger train depots, grain elevators, livery stable owners and all the others who have also moved on were somehow complicit in this perceived injustice?

If so, I am quite sure it's a revelation to them and to others as well.

I have a less paranoid take on why old downtowns everywhere have outlived their century-old layouts and it is this: parallel parking.
