Stingers bring out the Ar-Tillery

WILLMAR — Zack Tillery hit a grand slam and Chris Barnett added a three-run shot to power the Willmar Stingers past the Alexandria Blue Anchors 9-6 Wednesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

It was the first home run of the season for both players and their bombs put the Stingers up 7-1 by the third inning.

Stingers’ starter Sheldon Lee scattered five hits over six innings and struck out two to pick up the win.

Michael Murray finished it with 2.2 innings for his first save.

Tillery had three hits to bump his batting average to .474. 

Barnett, a sophomore out of Loyola Marymount, had two hits, and his home run was his first as a college player.

The Stingers knocked 13 hits in all. Alec Sole, Marc Flores and Michael Suchy also had two-hit nights.

Alexandria starter Corey Fitzgerald allowed seven runs in five innings to suffer the loss.
