Waterloo sinks Stingers in 10th
WATERLOO — The Willmar Stingers couldn’t protect an extra-inning lead and fell to the Waterloo Bucks 7-6 in 10 innings on Tuesday.
The Stingers led 4-0 after three innings but couldn’t hold that edge, either, and they limp home to play Waterloo at 7:05 p.m. today at Bill Taunton Stadium with a 5-7 record in the Northwoods League North Division’s second half. They trail the first-place Bucks (13-1) by seven games.
With the game tied 5-5, the Stingers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning when Tyler Leffler doubled with one out and scored on Kyle Perry’s two-out single.
But the Bucks answered back quickly against Stingers’ closer Bret Dahlson.
Waterloo’s John Ziznewski walked and moved to second on David Kerian’s single. Jack Riffice ran for Ziznewski and he scored the tying run on Will Sparks’ RBI double, with Kerian moving up to third.
Blake Hickman followed with an infield single that brought home Kerian with the winning run.
Willmar’s Nick Halamandaris hit his fourth home run of the summer and he drove in three runs. Max Kuhn was 3-for-5 and scored a run, and Alec Sole drove in a run and also scored.
Dahlson was hit with his second loss of the season.
