Stingers drops 2nd straight

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay touched up Stingers’ starter Jack Hegarty for five runs in three innings and Willmar lost its second straight to the Bullfrogs 8-5 on Tuesday at Joannes Stadium.

The Stingers are 9-13 in the second half of the Northwoods League North Division and 32-25 overall.

Jose Godinez dealt the big blow with a three-run, two-out double off Hegarty in the first inning.

Ryan Drobny also drew a bases-loaded walk in the first, and Jimmy Coady scored on a single in the second to put Green Bay up 5-0.

The Stingers came within two in the top of the seventh with a Marc Flores RBI-single and a three-run blast off the bat of Michael Suchy.

But the Bullfrogs extended their lead in the bottom of the inning off Willmar reliever Josh Matheson on a Tripp Martin two-run homer.

Suchy’s shot was his ninth of the season, one behind team-leader Flores.

Danny Brennan tripled and was 3-for-4.

The Stingers continue interleague play 7:05 p.m. today at Madison.
