Kandiyohi County Fair demo derby: Braking Bad

Andy Sorenson of Brooten (06) and Bill Winfield (53) of LeRoy body slam mortally wounded No. 27, steered by Brandon Ritt of New London, near the end of the 11-entry Compact class. Winfield outlasted Sorenson for first. Ritt took home the third-place money. Tribune photo by Rand Middleton.

WILLMAR — Demolition derby fans eager for heavy-metal hits filled the long grandstand and the pit risers to conclude four evenings of motor madness at the Kandiyohi County Fair Saturday evening.

Helped by four days of perfect weather, upwards of 1,000 spectators took in the crashes courses in six car and truck disciplines.

Compacts had the largest draw with 11 cars, though one failed to start.

The KRA stock-car racing with a free grandstand on Wednesday drew a full house. Both the Power Pull Thursday and the Monster Trucks on Friday, a first at the fair, drew well over 600 paid each.
