Boys soccer: Cards pound Otters

FERGUS FALLS — Nick McLouth and Isaac Yoakum each scored two goals and the Willmar Cardinals beat up Fergus Falls 7-0 on Thursday in a Central Lakes Conference game.

McLouth scored at the 21- and 35-minute marks in the first half to give the Cardinals a 2-0 halftime lead.

Willmar tacked on five more in the second half with goals from Ezequiel Gomez, Juan Contreras, Teza Harrison and two from Yoakum.

“We did a nice job of working the ball through our formation,” Cardinals’ head coach Jeff Winter said. “Coming up a little slower and using our midfielder we were able to pass triangles around them using the outside.”

The win counted for two points in the CLC standings, and Willmar moved into third place ahead of St. Cloud Tech, which lost to Sartell on Thursday.

The Cardinals next play Saturday at home against New Ulm.
